LASC: SUPERIOR COURT OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY PRESIDING JUDGE SAMANTHA P. JESSNER CONGRATULATES SUPERVISING JUDGE OF THE CIVIL DIVISION, MICHELLE WILLIAMS COURT, ON HER CONFIRMATION TO U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA

Today, Superior Court of Los Angeles County Presiding Judge Samantha P. Jessner released the following statement following the confirmation of Supervising Judge of the Civil Division Michelle Williams Court to the United States District Court for the Central District of California:

“We congratulate Judge Court on her confirmation today to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California,” Presiding Judge Jessner said. “Judge Court is an exemplary judge whose successful and impressive career has been shaped by her dedication to providing meaningful, fair and equal access to justice for all. Judge Court’s dedication to court technology innovation as a result of having served as Chair of the Court’s Technology Committee for many years, where she has guided strategic and significant technology projects that have maximized the Court’s efficiency for the benefit of all court users, will pay dividends on the federal bench. There is no doubt that the U.S. District Court and the people it serves will benefit immensely
from Judge Court’s breadth of experience, expertise and record of dedication to access to justice.”

In 2023, Judge Court was appointed as a voting member to the Judicial Council of California by Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Rules Committee and on the Technology Committee of the Judicial Council. In addition, she serves on the Supreme Court Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions and on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Judicial Selection Advisory Committee.

She has ably led the Court’s Civil Division with confidence, calm and deep knowledge of civil litigation. Judge Court is also President of the Los Angeles Law Library Board of Trustees.

Judge Court’s judicial career began in February 2012, following her appointment to the Court by former California Governor Jerry Brown in 2011. Prior to her appointment, Judge Court worked as Vice President and General Counsel at Bet Tzedek Legal Services. She held previous roles as a senior associate attorney at Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes and Lerach, and as a Community Builder Fellow and Civil Rights Specialist for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Judge Court received her undergraduate degree in sociology from Pomona College and her juris doctor degree from Loyola Law School.
