PLACER COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT: ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CIVIL TRIAL DEPARTMENT

The Superior Court of Placer County (“the Court”) announces the creation of a temporary civil trial department. As a result of the pandemic and the limited availability of courtrooms due to major audio and visual upgrades, the Court has recently experienced a backlog in civil cases. To mitigate this backlog, the Court will temporarily open an off-site courtroom, referred to as Department 50.

In collaboration with the Placer County Election’s Office, Department 50 is located at 23715 Atherton Rd. Rocklin, CA 95765. Department 50 will hear civil jury trials and civil court trials from the middle of June through the end of August. Signage will be prominently displayed at the Election’s Office to direct parties and attorneys to the courtroom and parking areas. The courtroom has full evidence presentation capabilities, but will not offer remote appearances.

As a temporary location, Department 50 is a courtroom only and no clerk’s office services are available at this location. Jury selection for jury trials heard in Department 50 will occur at the Howard G. Gibson Courthouse, located at 10820 Justice Center Drive in Roseville.

The Court is hopeful that this initiative will reduce the time to trial for civil cases and continue to promote access to justice in Placer County
