ANABEL Z. ROMERO NAMED COURT EXECUTIVE OFFICER
SAN BERNARDINO, CA—Following an executive recruitment search, the Judges of San Bernardino Superior Court (SBSC) have selected Anabel Z. Romero as Court Executive Officer. Ms. Romero is a naturalized citizen and the first Latina ever appointed Court Executive Officer for the SBSC. She will lead the largest court system by geographic size in the lower 48 states, with oversight responsibility of the day-to-day operations. SBSC has 101 judicial officers, and more than 1,100 employees, with an operating budget of $199 million.
Ms. Romero previously served over 22 years at Orange County Superior Court in a series of progressively responsible leadership positions, and most recently as a Deputy Court Executive Officer with court-wide operational oversight for SBSC since 2017. Over the last several years, Anabel has provided executive-level leadership to improve the administration of justice both at the local and state levels. She previously served as a member of the Proposition 66 Working Group, and currently serves as a member of the Judicial Council’s Criminal Law Advisory Committee and Tactical Workstream of the Information Technology Advisory Committee. Ms. Romero holds a Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Arts in Organization Leadership from Brandman University, Chapman University System.
Ms. Romero will assume the role of Court Executive Officer on Monday, November 14, 2022. “Anabel has 27 years of experience working in California trial courts. She has demonstrated strong leadership and management capabilities. Our community will benefit from her exceptional leadership to provide access to justice to over 2 million residents,” said Presiding Judge R. Glenn Yabuno.
New to the role but not the organization, incoming Court Executive Officer Anabel Z. Romero is excited to get started. “I am honored and humbled for the appointment from the bench, and look forward to continuing to serve the judicial officers and court staff that comprise our great court,” said Ms. Romero. “As I assume this new role, I welcome the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to serve over 2 million residents that make up our vast county.”
